FLAGSTAFF, AZ (October 7, 2026) –

Mountain Line is kicking off its 25th Anniversary celebration with free rides and a rider appreciation event on October 13.

What started as Coconino County’s Pine Country Transit in 1983, officially transitioned to Mountain Line on October 13, 2001. When the service launched, Mountain Line had four routes, six buses, and about 190,000 riders a year. Today, Mountain Line operates nine routes with 30 hybrid-electric and battery electric buses, and annual ridership has topped 2 million.

To mark the occasion on October 13, Mountain Line is offering free service all day and will host a rider appreciation event at the Downtown Connection Center (216 W. Phoenix Ave.). Riders can enjoy coffee and donuts on the bus plaza from 8-10 a.m., and check out a display on Mountain Line’s history in the DCC lobby.

“Mountain Line’s 25th anniversary is a celebration of the people, partnerships, and community that have shaped public transit in Flagstaff,” said Mountain Line Interim CEO and General Manager Kate Morley. “For a quarter century, we’ve been proud to fulfill our mission of ‘Getting You Where You Want to Go,’ and we’re excited to continue moving our community forward together.”

In its 25 years of service to Flagstaff, Mountain Line has seen significant growth and accomplishments to further transit in the community, including:

  • Secured more than $137 million in competitive grant funding for capital projects throughout Flagstaff.
  • Built a new Downtown Connection Center that serves as a multimodal hub and welcome to downtown Flagstaff.
  • Achieved a 100 percent hybrid-electric fleet, and added two battery electric buses to the fleet.
  • Launched special services, including: Mountain Express service to Arizona Snowbowl, vanpool service throughout Coconino County, and microtransit service to several social service agencies.
  • Opened the region’s first dedicated Commercial Drivers License (CDL) testing and training course.
